Coopers Pilsner
by Silk
@ 29, Jan 2006 |

|
|
1 Can Coopers Heritage Pilsner
12 g cl-80 hops 10 min boil
12 g Hersbrucker 20 min boil
1kg corn sugar
250g dextrose (hops boil)
200 g dextrose (bulk priming)
filtered water to make 24-25 litres
A good Aussie twist on a European
Pilsner.
The cl-80 has POR hops in it.
Worthy of my top 10

Coopers India Pale Ale (superseded)

Like all the Heritage range this one is
a gold.
I've been looking for a style of beer
that I would call my favourite.
After a great Winter brewing Lagers
/Pilsners I thought I had found my
favourite beer until I tried IPA.
(Although I have lots more styles to
brew including wheat)
At the moment IPA is it!
(Also see Black Rock IPA review)
Brewed with Goldings Hops and Light
Liquid Malt + 500g brew booster in
racking.
Lovely stuff in the hot months

Black Rock East India Pale Ale

I asked the HB shop about 'that HB
aftertaste!' that kind of lingering
(not hops) staleness. He thought that it
might just be the coopers Kits??? I have
been mostly brewing Coopers so at his
recommendation I put down this one.
A winner! Brewed with 12g Hersbruker
Hops and brew booster. Racked and Bulk
primed it is fruity Malty Hopsy and
clean.
Love it... Will do again.

Coopers Heritage Lager

I love this one. Straight kit as per
directions and you really can't go
wrong. A balanced interesting lager
floral and fresh. Can be modified but
only for your own tastes - no need to
modify really.

Malt Shovel Pale Ale

This was average to bad Kit. Careful
modifying this one. Done to the letter
it is a bit bland and well... a nothing
beer not like there commercial beer at
all. no delicate florals or late hop
flavours. This one isn't exciting and
not a standard. Modified it was aweful.
I was so careful to use supporting hops
and malts to the style and followed
temps and instructions on kit closely.
Made a double kit (23 litres).

Coopers Stout

A good quality Kit. I find the balance a
bit bitter perhaps though this is more
the style and my tastes.
I have brewed this with an Amber Malt
Mix (dried with 500 amber malt,250
Maltodex, 250 dex) and was happy! Added
this Kit to a Coopers Dark Ale Kit with
late boil Goldings and 1 kg roasted pear
fruit and loved the result.

Coopers Original Lager

A rgreat base for hopping and
extending.
Used now 6-8 times and had a good
drinking lager each time. Now adding
saaz or Hersbrucker on a regular basis
to this kit and love the result. Good
inexpensive standard when mixed with a
brew booster or Light Dry Malt.

Tooheys Dark Ale

Unremarkable but a good base for
additional ingredients.
This one was made with 20g of Goldings,
500 Dry light Malt, 250 Maltodextrin,
250 Dex. Worth the effort but would
choose the Coopers Dark Ale over this
one worth the extra $2.

Aweful stuff avoid like the plague.
Have tried this Kit 3 times now.
Straight & modified. Even as a base for
experimentation it failed. Boo!
Not the worst but close.

Coopers India Pale Ale (IPA)
by silk

I enjoy a good hops flavour and found
this one perfect. The IPA style should
be strong and hoppy so try doubling your
fermentables up to 2 kg. I found this
good though racking was needed.

Coopers Dark Ale

I've used this a few times now and had
success each time.
This kit lends itself well to
experimenting with body and hops. I've
always added hops late or dry. Try
mixing Dark ale kit and Stout Kit
together. Luurvly

Coopers Pilsner

Pure Gold! Use it as is or modify it if
you like this kit has a good yeast
supplied and works a treat. Crisp and
clean. I will use it again and will push
it further with Lagering next time...

Tooheys Lager

As a basic kit it is boring and as a
modified kit it doesn't get any better.
Its price has led me to use it as a base
but without success. No comparision to
Coopers or Gold Rush. Do yourself a
favour and spend the extra 5 bucks for a
better kit of drinkable beer.

I modified this kit with pear pulp,
Goldings, oats and extra maltodextrin.
Absolutely glorious drop. smooth malty
goodnes with rounded flavour. I havent
brewed it to kit specs though.

E.S.B Czech Pilsner

This brewed a nice drop. I added some
saaz to it as well. The yeast sediment
was very light in the bottle and clouds
the beer easily. Will definately rack it
next time.
