Black Rock Mexican Lager
by steve @ 18, May 2008

 4/5

Brewed as per kit instructions, but used brewcraft enhancer and a lager yeast (can't remember which - saflager?). It's a thoroughly drinkable lager, but not at all like I expected - I was hoping for something a little like Sol or Corona.

Black Rock Bock
by Steve @ 18, May 2008

 2/5

Brewed with brewcraft enhancer, and kit yeast. Drinkable after two weeks, not bad at 3-6 weeks, then thin and perhaps a little too bitter (bitter is okay if there's body!) after that. Kind of like dark tonic water. Definitely wouldn't do it again. It finished at 1012, high I would have thought.

E.S.B Extra Special Stout
by Steve @ 19, Apr 2006

Made up to 20 litres with SO4. 15 days primary at 18. Bulk primed 120gms white sugar. Simple to make and bloody bewdiful at 2 weeks in bottle. Definately do again. Cheers Steve

American Pale Ale
by Steve @ 26, Mar 2006

 5/5

Chuck in 20gms Cascade in cup of boiling water for 15 mins. Put this in primary with Kit and US56, top up to 23l. 7 days primary at 18 degrees. Handfull of Cascade in secondary at 18 degrees. 7 days secondary, bulk prime 150gms white sugar...I was drinking this at day 10 in the bottle. Absolute hop explosion. The greener the better. Sensational. All 27 longnecks gone after 3 weeks!!!! Far better than the APA Fresh Wort. Cheers Steve

Ingredients: 1 x tin Morgans Royal Oak Amber Ale, 500gms Maltcraft Dark Crystal, 500gms LDME, 500gms Dextrose, 250gms Dried Corn Syrup, Fuggles Hops (pellets), Safale SO4 Method: 1. Heated 4 litres of water with a 1/4 of the tin of the extract. Brought to boil and then added 20gms fuggles. 2. Gently boiled for 15 mins then added Crystal, LDME, Dextrose Dried Corn Syrup and 12 gms fuggles. 3. Gently boiled for 10 mins then added 12 gms fuggles for another 5 mins (total boil time: 30 mins) 4. Poured rest of tin into fermenter and sieved the pot of wort in as well (once cooled). 5. Topped up to 23 litres and added yeast. Bulk primed with 140gsm plain sugar. 6 days primary, 9 days secondary. I've done just the amber ale by itself many times...but this is sensational.

Poured the tea into primary. 7 days primary then 5 days in secondary with 12gms Hallertau pellets loose. Bulk primed with dextrose. Excellent, simple, quick and bloody tasty. Cheers Steve

E.S.B Stout Fresh Wort Kit
by Steve @ 02, May 2005

 5/5

Excellent. If you love Coopers Stout - this is better. 7 days in primary around 20 degress. Fuggles hops T-bag. Windsor Ale dried yeast. Added an extra kilo of light malt extract and made up to 23 litres. Bottled straight from primary, tasted first one after 7 days...bewdiful. Definately going to do a few more of this one. (makes you fart though)!

E.S.B. American Pale Ale Fresh Wort
by Steve @ 11, Apr 2005

 5/5

Fantastic beer. I have probably done about 6 of these. Pour the wort into the fermenter, boil up 25-30gms Cascade hops in muslin bag for 15 mins, pour the tea into fermenter through a sieve, pour a couple of litres of cold water through hops whilst muslin bag is in seive. Full up to 23l, sprinkled 1056 American Pale Ale dry yeast on top, seal. Bottled after 7 days in primary, beautiful after 10 days. My 28 longnecks dont see the month out. Has to be my favourite. So simple.

E.S.B Amber Ale Fresh Wort Kit
by Steve @ 23, Jan 2005

 5/5

MAde with whitelabs british ale yeast. Fermented at 18c for 8 days. Made to 20L. A great beer with a lovely nuttiness to it. Could do with a little more body and perhaps a little more colour. This is one of my fav beers. highly recommended. make it to 19L or add some more malt.

E.S.B Extra Special Nut Brown
by Steve @ 12, Jan 2005

Made up to 22L and used whitelabs burton ale yeast(one of my fave yeasts). this was the first beer i kegged. turned out bloody good. i would recommend making this up to 20/21L for abit more body. A nice brown ale and dead easy.

E.S.B Pilsner Fresh Wort Kit
by Steve @ 12, Jan 2005

 5/5

Made with WLP802 Czech Budejovice Lager. Made up to 20L. Fermented at 12c for two weeks. CC for 3 weeks. Added 15g Saaz in secondary.Kegged. Bloody brilliant. Lovely citrus notes. This beer would be one of the best i have made. It didnt last long it was too good. I tried St Arnou pilsner on tap at a pub and you would be hard pressed to pick the differnce between the two. If you have access to a brewing fridge and are able to ferment at teh required temp this is a must do.

Coopers Heritage Lager
by Steve @ 12, Jan 2005

 2/5

Made with 1kg Esb Malt extract and supplied yeast. fermented at 13c for two weeks. added 15g Hersbrucker hops in secondary. Cold conditioned for 3 weeks. Kegged. It was a little dark for a lager. Quite hoppy. Not sure what it was but i didnt like this one at all. However, this kit aside the other Thomas Coopers kits are all up there with the best.

Morgans Dockside Stout
by Steve @ 10, Jan 2005

 4/5

Have done this a few times but added 1 can Dark Malt extrac, small can of choc malt extract, some lactose and some extra hops to balance all that malt. Excellent results, has turned a few of my mates onto dark beers.

Coopers Original Lager
by Steve @ 10, Jan 2005

 2/5

Made with 750g DME and 250g dextrose. Used supplied yeast(ale). Turned out boring and bland. Poor head retention also.

Coopers Australian Pale Ale
by Steve @ 10, Jan 2005

 4/5

Made with 1kg tin of morgans extra pale malt, 15g cascade hops and supplied yeast. turned out pretty good, mates loved it. If i made it again i would not use the kilo of malt but rather a blend on malt and dextrose to lighten the body a little. A good session beer, one to ween your mates onto homebrew.

Malt Shovel Two-Row Lager
by Steve @ 10, Jan 2005

 5/5

It is malty but yum. It actually comes with a true lager yeast as I ferment it at about 12 degrees. With this yeast though I fingd that it does not ferment to a very low FG so some rousingof the yeast prior to secondary is very important, also critical to areate the wort well prior to adding the yeast. Highly recommended kit thoug, probably the best I have ever used.

Malt Shovel Deep Roast Ale
by Steve @ 10, Jan 2005

 4/5

Good kit. Great results when made as per instructions. After 2 months in the bottle it is quite a good beer. It could perhaps do with abit more body though...

E.S.B Australian Draught
by Steve @ 10, Jan 2005

 5/5

Great kit. Easy as. Brilliant seession beer. Something to ween your mates onto homebrew. Made with safale and had good results once the yeast clears. Similar to Carlton Draught. One of the best kits around. For best results use whitelabs californian ale yeast and ferment at suitable temp. cheers

E.S.B Bavarian Lager
by Steve @ 10, Jan 2005

 3/5

Made with SAF34/70 yeast @12c. Lagered 3 weeks. The kits was a little bland but not bad as a session beer. Similar to Carlton Cold.

Black Rock Lager
