Cascade Spicy Ghost Draught
by axle
@ 11, Mar 2007 |

|
|
Not sure about this one, not having luck
with any of the cascade range, the
supplied yeast seem to grumble about
having to drink it.
This one seems affected by autolosys
because I'm lazy, good news is I drink
just about anything.
Look, if it was one of my first brews I
wouldn't complain, but I've been
spoilt with much better. With better
yeast and maybe steeped grains and dry
hopped you would possibly have something
special. But in reviewing the kit as it
stands, not recommended.

TCB Wetpak - Classic Oak Ale

Still got half a doz longnecks locked up
after 6 months. I recon this one ages
brilliantly.
As directed. Only thing I would do
differently is invest in liquid yeast
next time.

This didn't last long. Probably could
have done with a touch more hop flavour
for my tastes, but probably true to
style.

X-TRACT Summer Edition Wheat 3kg
by axle

My first go at liquid yeast WLP300
hefeweizen. Made a starter etc. Can and
water as directed, tossed the dried
yeast aside and pitched the liquid. 11
days to finish fermenting at around 24C,
primed and filled 32 bottles.
After 1 week in bottle it has good
carbonation for this style. Faint banana
and clove character, reasonable head
(should improve with age).
I recon and my mates agree that this is
my best. Taste is sensational and well
balanced. Could drink it all in a
sitting I recon, but it's too good! It
demands to be savoured. Probably better
than anything I've ever tasted, and I
made it!

Cascade Golden Harvest Lager
by axle
@ 27, Feb 2006 |

can + brew enhancer 1 + 500g honey
($5/kg from side of road - no idea what
it is) to 20L. First time I've tried
honey and it is coming along fine. Not
much other flavour but the honey comes
out really well.
Took an age to start and finish
regardless of the heat (almost ran out
of hb waiting). Could benefit from
different yeast I suppose.

TCB Wetpak - American Pale

As directed, but at too high temp due to
heatwave and no spare fridge. Probably a
bit light on the alc vol, but taste! My
first partial and it leaves the k&k for
dead! Only 1.5 weeks in bottle and it's
clear and tastes better than anything.
Gonna be hard to wait for it to get
better. I had a favourite beer before I
started homebrewing, now I've found my
new favorite with this.

my 1st effort and was very pleasantly
surprised just how got this homebrewing
is. Brewed at around 24C as per
directions with bodybrew. Crystal clear
even though I forgot the finings, great
head good carbonation, but tastes a
little strange at the back of the mouth,
sortof metallic maybe astringent
(probably something I done wrong) won't
stop me drinkin it though.

X-TRACT Bitter 3kg
by axle
@ 18, Dec 2005 |

Brewed at around 25C as directed with
supplied yeast but used less water.
After only 1 week it's clear, well
carbonated with generous head, very
bitter to start then very caramel sweet
with a pleasant aftertaste. Probably
better with more water but I like it!
Only done 3 others, this is my favourite
so far.
