Malt Shovel Nut Brown Ale
by Dave
@ 30, Aug 2006 |

I mainly do AG now but I quite like this
extract whin I'm short for time. Used
it several times now. Always turns out
quite nice even done with few additions,
though I always use a good quality
yeast.
Spiced it up last time by steeping some
chocolate and black malt. Also added
some brown sugar and corn syrup and some
goldings hops.
Now at 3 months old it has a beautiful
porter taste.

E.S.B Special Traditional bitter
by Dave
@ 10, Oct 2005 |

|
|
Made to 22 liters with supplied yeast
(Safale S-04) and 200g amber crystal
malt grain steeped @ 77c for 25 mins.
Excellent traditional English bitter -
slightly rough, bitter finish like the
ales from London; not like the smooth,
sweeter styles from the north of England
(eg. Yorkshire Bitter). Clear winner
when taste tested against Boddingtons
(on tap) - Bodingtons was watery, bland
and lacked... well, it just lacked in
comparison.
