Grumpys REPUBLICAN DARK ALE
by Guran
@ 22, Feb 2005 |

I've made this twice, once with the
supplied safale, the second time with
Wyeast 1098. The first time was my
first MB, and I burnt it a little on the
boil. The result wasn't too bad ( a
week in CC, and now about 3 months in
the bottle). The second time I had a
lot more control over the boil and it
tasted superb on bottling - less edgy
than with the safale yeast. Yet to
taste carbonated version - it's only
been in the bottle three days!

Grumpys DOUBLE HOP PALE ALE
by Guran
@ 24, Jan 2005 |

Made to specifications with safale dry
yeast (2x sachets in 300mL of luke warm
water with a tsp of malt from the
masterbrew pack) and Grumpy's medium
bitterness pale malt extract (1.7 kg).
Fermentation took off very promptly
(within 3 hrs) but forgot to take OG!
Fermentation completed within five days,
but left till 7th to rack and CC. FG
was 1014. CC for 5 days, then bulk
primed (160g caster sugar) and bottled
19 litres on 9/1/05. Still immature at
this time, but tasting very promising!

Black Rock Dry Lager
by Guran
@ 10, Jan 2005 |

I got a Stella Artois clone recipe off a
home-brewing site which called for this
kit to be used. The exact recipe I
don't recall, but it involved using
Hallertau hops, extra dry light malt and
dextrose, and saflager yeast. The
result was so-so, which makes me fear
for the result you would get using the
kit alone.
Overall impression: not impressed.
