Morgans Blue Mountain Lager

 4/5

I should have mentioned in my previous review, that I used 1kg Morgans Master Blend Lager extract malt for the fermentables. Also used the kit yeast.

Morgans Blue Mountain Lager

Brewed using 2 stage fermentation. (6 + 8 days). Dry hopped with Hallertau in secondary. Apart from low carbonation, it turned out a very nice drop indeed. Very much a summer beer. Will do again. (Carbonation issue was due to not bulk priming with enough dextrose)

Coopers Original Lager

Like most reviewers, I started with this kit because it came with my Coopers HB Kit. Brewed & bottled using the supplied sugar(sucrose/maltodextrin blend 1kg) & carb drops. Sat at the really low end if it's range (16-18° C.) for 9 days (Winter indoor temps) After 4 weeks in the bottle it's really starting to come good. Taste/Aroma is a bit light on, so next time will try dry-hopping some Saaz. Good value kit.

Wander Draught

Brewed it with Coopers Brew Enhancer 2 (Dex, LDME & Maltodextrin 1kg blend) and Safale S-04 (batch size was 23 litres). Brew temps were at the low end of the Safale (15-17 deg C). Racked after 6 days & then 7 days in secondary. Bulk primed with 130 grams dex (batch size was 18 litres after racking). SG started at 1042 & finished at 1017. I was a bit worried that fermentation hadn't finished & bottle bombs might have been in order, but it was still 1017 after 10 days in the bottle. Taste is not bad at all. It's a nicely carbed light malty ale. I'm not sure I would call this brew value for money, as I spent more on the extras than on the kit, but it turned out ok. Give it a try if you find it on sale.
