Muntons Gold 3kg Highland Heavy Ale
by Ross @ 06, May 2005

 4/5

Just did the standard kit with Scottish wyeast 1728 & dry hopped with 2 x fuggles plugs. A dark amber ale with a lovely rich flavour. It's highly bittered, so maybe too high for some, but I love this style. The aroma of the fuggles comes through beautifully & really compliments this ale

Grumpys CLASSIC ENGLISH DRAUGHT
by Ross @ 04, Mar 2005

 4/5

My first Grumpys brew & despite my trepidation of boiling the specialty grains (as per the instructions) this was a very pleasent ale indeed. I made it with Thames yeast & dry hopped with 2 plugs of goldings. I personally prefer a touch more bitterness - & if made with a more highly bittered extract I reckon it would get 5 stars...

Woodfordes Wherry Bitter
by Ross @ 06, Feb 2005

 5/5

Just tried this for the first time, having been a firm fan of their "Nelsons Revenge" (5%) which has been my main stay bitter for years. Have to admit that I prefer the Wherry (4.5%). Even kegging & drinking 3 days after fermentation, this beer is perfectly balanced & is a superb reprsentation of an English style ale - fully deserving the "CAMRA" Champion New Brewery Beer of Britain award it won in 1990/1.

Woodfordes Nelson's Revenge
by Ross @ 09, Jan 2005

 5/5

This is my favourite session bitter... A full-bodied (4.9%) pale amber beer with the rich flavour of Dundee cake. Sultana fruitiness & a wonderful honey aroma is balanced by a hoppy bitterness, to give a full, but light feel. The finish continues to develop into a warm, mellow glow. With no added sugar needed, this kit couldn't be simpler, just add water & stir in the yeast packet. This beer is perfectly balanced, therefore no need for lengthy bottling or kegging...
