Beermakers Draught
by Sasquatch
@ 14, Apr 2007 |

I quite like this one... not the best
kit in the world, but very affordable,
and nice and dry on the finish. Head
retention is quite good. I like this
beer done with 2 cans in about 30 L of
water. The kit yeast is fine, but
doesn't settle out as well as, say,
Nottingham or even Cooper's, as a
comparable dry yeast.
I always have this on the shelf - kind
of the unspectacular old standby house
beer.

This comes out very similar to Kilkenny
from Ireland. And that's a damn fine
thing, my friends.

Fabulous kit BANG ON for style...
remarkably crisp for kit beer. Really
good flavour, and basically a kit that I
would buy over and over.

Morgans Iron Bark Dark Ale
by Sasquatch
@ 27, Jan 2006 |

I did the IBD in with some amber DME,
and some dextrose, and I boiled up about
a half pound of Black Patent, and gave
er a little handful of Cascades for the
last 10 minutes of the boil. Result is
a really smooth and mellow dark ale. No
sharp corners, and a lingering malty
aftertaste. Great kit, I'm very happy
with the result. Not "Portery" like
some dark beers... a very nicely
balanced drink. I'm glad I bought two
cans, I'll probably do the same thing
again... maybe I'll do some bittering
hops in a longer boil.

Morgans Yukon Brown Smoked Ale
by Sasquatch
@ 22, Jan 2006 |

I did a double-can batch of this stuff,
hoping for super-beer. What I got was
ridiculously malty, but managed to be
totally thin in the mouth. All traces
of smokiness were wiped by the malt.
Perhaps brewing accoding to the
instructions would improve this one, but
I won't try it again. Only batch of
homebrew I've ever pitched out,
thinking, "I'm just never ever gonna
drink this"

Morgans Canadian India Pale Ale
by Sasquatch

I haven't tasted this kit yet, but it
looks like typical good stuff from
Morgan's. The beer is a bit darker
than the original (Alexander Keith's)
it is supposedly a clone of. One thing
I was quite annoyed about was that the
yeast supplied merely said "Yeast" -
neither Morgan's lager or ale yeast.
So what the hell is it?

Coopers Australian Bitter
by Sasquatch
@ 22, Jan 2006 |

|
|
I did a can of this Bitter with 50:50
dextrose and amber DME and at first was
kind of disappointed with the result.
But after three weeks in the bottle the
beer turned the corner (as beer usually
seems to at three weeks for me) and now
I'm quite impressed. Taste is very
similar to Old Speckled Hen. It is a
bit thinner in body. Perfectly decent
base kit, as usual from Cooper's. They
are not fancy, but seem quite reliable.
