X-TRACT Pilsner 3kg

Post New Review

certainly not a pils urquet!
by tonydav @ 08, Oct 2006

 2/5

I made this kit as per the instructions using the yeast included. Fermented at around 12 degrees. Personally I found it a decent bitter but really to me it wasn't a pils. Minimal hop aroma, just heaps of bitterness. I think I may as well have done a cheap two can! Can't say I really enjoyed drinking it. Unfortunately this huge bitter balance seems to be a part of the X-Tracts. After two different kits like this I'm afraid they'll be my last.

Great Pilsener

Made kit up as per instructions and used Saflager yeast supplied. Fermented over 2 weeks at 16 to 18 degrees. Bottled using bulk priming with dextrose. Very hoppy beer with great style. Enjoyed after 3 months after cooling to bitterly cold and again at 6 months old. Both tinmes I found the beer to be absolutely fantastic. Will definately brew again.

Impressive Australian-style Pilsner

 4/5

Made as is by my brother-in-law as his second brew, in summer of all times, it came out surprisingly good. While more like a Reschs Pilsner than Pilsner Urquell, it's far superior as it has aroma and taste beyond Reschs Pilsner's characteristic dominant bitterness. Great for summer drinking, this beer has you contemplating the complex flavours in the pleasant lingering aftertaste. This kit manages to make a good beer without having to add anything. Highly recommended!
