Coopers Australian Pale Ale

Post New Review

Simple Pale Ale

 3/5

Can + Coopers Brew Enhancer 2 + I decided to culture yeast from 2 stubbies of CPA into a 1L starter for 2 days. At full krausen I dumped it into the mix. Also boiled 20g Pride of Ringwood hops for 30mins and 10g at flame out. Primary for 18 days at 19C, SG 1049 FG 1009. After 3 weeks in the bottle it's nicely carbonated but lacks head and tastes a little on the weak side. It does show hints of the classic CPA, mostly I think due to the PoR addition, but the 500g of dextrose in the BE2 hasn't helped. I would do the mix up to about 20L and probably just add 1kg of light malt instead of the BE2.

getting better

its been 6 weeks - the brew with kit, BE2 and recultured coopers yeast - very drinkable now, a lighter version of CPA - needs probably another few weeks to be a great drop, but is very promising. Not exactly malty like the real thing, would need a 1.5kg coopers LME to get close to emulating the original, and maybe 12g PoR. This kit needs time but thanks to the cultured coopers yeast its got a great taste to it.

needs additions

Brewed two batches. The first was kit, BE2 and rehydrated CPA from 3 stubbies - brewed around 20*. After 20odd days it had alright carbonation, poor head retention, lacked bitterness, and was a little sweet. Hopefully it will improve after another couple of months The second batch was kit, 1kg light dry malt extract, 12.5g PoR (bitterness) and rehydated CPA yeast. Tastes much better. Actually tastes a little like the real thing, hopefully will only get better.

Made up as per the recipe in the summer issue of the Coopers North American newletter for Coopers Mild. One can of APA, one US poundof XLT DME, 1/2 ppound of dextrose; one ounce of Saaz pellets for 20 minutes after shut down; kit yeast. Two weeks primary, one week secondary, force carbonated in the keg. Great stuff! Almost like a light pilsner.

Used 900g LDME, 450g Dex, 25g Cluster and US-05 yeast. Mixed it all up in a hurry and left to ferment at 19c for 8 days while I was overseas. Came back, kegged it and it's pretty good straight after gassing. Nice colour, citrus overtones from the cluster and good head retention. This really is a never fail kit.

This would be my best brew to date. Made kit with 1Kg Brew Enhancer #2 and 500g LDME, used a cascade finishing hop. Ferment out in 10 Days Bottled for 6 months the resulting pale ale is very fruity great citrus aromas, great body, nice fluffy head.

Made with 1kg BE2 and 500g LDME using the kit yeast. Fermented for 7 days at 21c then kegged and left for a week. It has cleared nicely now and has disappeared very quickly. Nice refreshing beer that goes down easily.

Coopers Australian Pale Ale

Brewed this in October by adding 1 pound Coopers light DME and .5 pound corn suger, kit yeast, to make 5 US gallaons. Ferment went well, at about 65F. Kegged with 1/3 cup corn sugar. Cracked the keg last night. It's a nice beer, but I may have it too cold, as the esters from the yeast are weak, and the overall taste is still a buit harsh. A very nice beer, though. I've done all kinds of brewing, from all grain to partial mash to mini-mash to all extract, and I'd say this is one of the nicest beers I've made. I will make this again.

A Euro touch

Put down 01/08/06. 1.7kg can, water to 11.5L in MS fermenter, and 15g BrewCellar European Lager Yeast dry pitched @ 24degC. No other ingredients. Brew temp was 18degC. OG 1043. FG 1009. Bottle primed 12/08/06. Good body & head with flavour showing good balance between malt & hops. 4.5 star effort, but have rated as 4. All gone, so will have to do again.
