View Kit

Good one!
by George @ 17, Apr 2010 |

Second timne around for this kit, and I
think I got it right this time. Made on
22 Jan 2010: Started with .5lb of 10L
crystal;removed grains just as they came
to the boil, added .5oz of Hallertau,
boiled for 15 minutes, then added
another .5oz of Hallertau for 5 more
minutes; added Heritage Lager kit and
one can of Coopers light LME. Pitched
Saflager S23 when cooled, 23 litres.
Racked on 17 February and kegged on 6
March. Cracked the keg this week - oh
my, I am very, very pleased!

Hertiage Lager

Coopers Heritage Lager + Brewer's
Choice Ultra Brew
(LDM+Dex+Corn Syrup Solid). Kit yeast
worked
nicely. Fermented at 13C for 3 weeks.
Tasted at
1month. Very clean and smooth due to the
low
fermentation temp. Not sure if I'd muck
around with
this one. It will please the general
public and I find it
a nice change from full-bodied ales...

For the best, hop it!

Brewed this 3 times, 3 ways.
fermentables per instructions. Much
better with low temp fermentation - have
used White labs WLP830 and Saflager
W34/70 at 12 and 14C resp. Without added
hop it's a bit bland, so used
Hersbrucker 14g plug(s) in the latter 2
brews, steeped for aroma or boiled for
bitterness; both help make this a
delicious lager, probably the best of
the half dozen I've tried.

Great Beer

I do a low carb , mid strength with
enzyme and dextrose (500g) and feel this
is the best lager on the market. I have
tried most.

the backbone of my brews

I love this one. Straight kit as per
directions and you really can't go
wrong. A balanced interesting lager
floral and fresh. Can be modified but
only for your own tastes - no need to
modify really.

very easy

A fine drop I've made it 10-15 times.
It's sweet up front with a nice bitter
aftertaste. I tend to use it to try
different hops . I've done P.O.R.,
golden cluster, cascade , Mt Hood,
northern brewer, hallertau & Green
bullet. The best results are P.O.R. &
Hallertau but all have been very good.

Not bad for quaffing

Made this kut with 1.5kg light malt and
300g dextrose to get a little extra
alcohol content. Tasted this beer after
two months and thought it was rubbish.
I ended up leaving it for about 5 months
before trying again and what a
difference those extra months made.
Reminded me a lot of James Boags
Premium. Very drinkable!

Coopers Heritage

Brewed this with 1kg of Light DME and
used Wyeast Munich Lager. Fermented at
14C for 10 days then CCed for 2 weeks at
2C. One word springs to mind," Bland".
I think this beer should have had some
dry hopping to give it a bit of punch.

Best of this range

Best of the Thomas Cooper's range.
Brewed with 500gms Dextose, 500gms LME,
200gms Maltodextrin. Nice balance
between malt and hops. Goes quite well
using yeast supplied. Gets close to its
best by 3 months.
One of my fav's!
