Best Bitter
by HonestJohn

Not bad. Probably the best bitter (pun
intended) you can get from a can of goo
and just following the instructions.
Comparable to Coopers IPA in end result,
except it's less effort becuase there
are no extras to add and mix. Best
choice for the lazy brewer.

Have made this twice now, both times as
per instructions with supplied yeast.
2nd time made to 23L, which was far
better- this is a VERY bitter kit so
don't ever make it to less than 22l! An
excellent beer, as per usual for the ESB
3kg kits. Highly recommended.

Smashing drop

Absoloutley lovely drop. Brewed with
200g Crystal 40 (steeped 20min in 70C
water) Added 5g East Kent Goldings Hops
(each) at 60 (bittering) 30 (flavour)
and flameout (aroma) Ferment at 18C for
2 weeks. Drink straight out of the
primary fermenter at cellar temps (do
not caronate) for the authetic English
Real Ale experience. Close your eyes and
you could be siting outside the Jolly
Sailor in Hamble drinking a Wadworth's
4X, a HSB, or a badger hand pumped
ale....Superb !!!

London Bitter
by Dave - Email Reviewer
@ 10, Oct 2005 |

Made to 22 liters with supplied yeast
(Safale S-04) and 200g amber crystal
malt grain steeped @ 77c for 25 mins.
Excellent traditional English bitter -
slightly rough, bitter finish like the
ales from London; not like the smooth,
sweeter styles from the north of England
(eg. Yorkshire Bitter). Clear winner
when taste tested against Boddingtons
(on tap) - Bodingtons was watery, bland
and lacked... well, it just lacked in
comparison.

I have brewed this a couple of times,
both times adding a mini mash of 200g
Carapils, 100g Melanoidin and 100g
Weyerman Wheat Malt. SO4 yeast fermented
@ 18 degrees. Very good either bottled
or on tap. This may become my house
brew.
