Quite good...but not quite there
by Ozbear @ 04, Oct 2006 |

I made this one as a double canner @
22L. To this I added 20gms of steeped
goldings hops and 250 grams of chocolate
grains. The purists among you may be
perturbed that I used a lager yeast, but
I think it gives stout a certain
crispness (and it was near on 15c when I
made it).
Four months later it is a surprisingly
light double stout. Quite drinkable,
but not quite what I wanted. I was
looking for something along the lines of
a Russian Imperial (Coopers Double
extra), something I've managed with
both Coopers and Muntons Kits. If you
like to eat your stout with a spoon, so
to speak, choose the latter two brands.
