Good Porter/Dark Ale

Made this twice - first up with 500g
liquid Crystal Malt and 500g Stout
Booster to 24 litres. Exceptional after
four months though it lacked body and
head. Made again as a Rum Porter with
1kg Crystal Malt, 500g Stout Booster,
200g Molasses (Treacle), 200g C.S.,
200ml Bundy and a fuggles teabag. Made
to 22 litres. Took three months before
it was smooth enough to drink but now
it's excellent! Plus it cures insomnia!

Nice

Made as per recipe. Nice, but for my
money the Country Brewer 1.7kg Old is
much better. Other people I've given
samples to agree.

Black as...

Used 1.5kg DME, 15g Fuggles, 15g
Progress and Nottingham yeast in 21
ltrs. Fermented at 19c for 8 days,
kegged and gassed over 2 days. This
isn't a bad beer and my mates quite
like it but I think it's missing
something. It tasted best when it was
new and it's almost bland after a month
in the keg. I think it needs a bit more
hopping and maybe some grain in it.
It's black as can be and looks great in
the glass but I'm not sure it's as
good as the other Morgans range.

Brewed with 1kg of Country Brewers Stout

Left to bottle age for 3 months and
turned out to be a very good dark ale.
Smooth, rich, good body.

Great Base Kit

First Kit for ages (done with a friend
learning to brew), used it as a base for
a porter. Added 1 can Morgans Choc Malt
extract with some black and crystal
malts and also used british ale wyeast.
Came out a cracker, close to my AG
porters.

Mmmm.... dark.

I did the IBD in with some amber DME,
and some dextrose, and I boiled up about
a half pound of Black Patent, and gave
er a little handful of Cascades for the
last 10 minutes of the boil. Result is
a really smooth and mellow dark ale. No
sharp corners, and a lingering malty
aftertaste. Great kit, I'm very happy
with the result. Not "Portery" like
some dark beers... a very nicely
balanced drink. I'm glad I bought two
cans, I'll probably do the same thing
again... maybe I'll do some bittering
hops in a longer boil.

Golden head- lovely beer

My all time favourite.
Made straight up with dex 1kg and
Safale- fermented hot, maybe 28 to 32
degrees. Bulk primed 200 gms dex- good
after 1 week, fantastic after two, maybe
losing a little bit of its hoppiness by
week three.
Lovely rich nutty caramel flavours- very
long rich finish- no burnt stout like
flavours at all.
Easy to make, can't go wrong f you love
dark meaty ale! Even my wife who isn't
really a drinker loves it.

I've used this as a base for a choc
porter.
Added 1 can Morgans Choc Malt extract,
250g dry dark malt, 250g maltodextrin
and steeped 150gm choc grain. Added 24g
Kent Golding hops. Used Safale instead
of the kit yeast.
Very yummy porter
