Average brown ale.
I dunno, all homebrew brown ales seem to
taste the same to me, and I'm yet to
sample one that is actually brown, as
opposed to chocolate or mahoganey.
Must be something to do with the malt
extract process darkening the original
syrup.
Nothing very nutty about it either.
Also lacks freshness, probably from
sitting on wharf in Auckland, crossing
the Tasman in a container,
and then sitting on Melbourne's docks
waiting to be unpacked.
Take my advice, at least swap the yeast
out for a fresher pack, or just buy a
locally made kit. I'd give it 2 & 1/2
stars but they don't allow that, so 3.

Nice Dark Ale Base

I mainly do AG now but I quite like this
extract whin I'm short for time. Used
it several times now. Always turns out
quite nice even done with few additions,
though I always use a good quality
yeast.
Spiced it up last time by steeping some
chocolate and black malt. Also added
some brown sugar and corn syrup and some
goldings hops.
Now at 3 months old it has a beautiful
porter taste.

i used this as a base and won a homebrew
comp, out of 30 entries.so im not quite
shure what these other fellas are on.a
simple mix with really good results
would be to add morgans choc malt, take
it to 18ltrs.using supplied yeast.you
will get a creamy head, and dark beer
without the burnt taste.

Horrible

Would have to be the worst tasting brew
I have ever tried. Was brewed according
to instructions with yeast supplied.
Lest for 90 days to mature in bottles.
Tried myself and thought was disgusting.
Had father in law, who has been brewing
for 20 years, sample and he disliked as
well. Had brewing bussy sample and he
disliked as well.
Tipped 2 dox longnecks out down sink to
make way for better brew.

Nut Brown Ale

I have had twice problems with supplied
yeast and had to add safale after
48hours.
A bit sweet for my taste and I add now
25g Goldings for aroma hopping.
An aftertaste of cream seems
characteristic for Maltshovel brews and
seems the strongest with this one. It is
pleasant once you get used to it. It
does grow on you, so I always have this
one or the Deep Roast Ale in stock. The
ladies love it.
