Morgans Dockside Stout

Post New Review

Disapointing..at 5 weeks
by Dean @ 06, Feb 2010

 2/5

HB shop owner pushed this over the Thomas Coopers Irish Stout. Made with 200g of lactose and Stout Mix(Dark malts extra). Very disapointed with the result so far. Thin on character, nay, no REAL character at all! Being a Stout drinker from the UK and loving Coopers Best Extra Stout I was looking to improve on my Stouter Stout previously made using Coopers Stout with only 18l of water(fantastic!). Hopefully this will improve with age!!!

Being a big fan of Coopers Extra Stout I thought I'd make some myself. HB Shop owner recommended this one. I tin, tin yeast, stout booster,10ml of lic. extract,16 grams (teabag)of fuggles, 18 litres of water. Brewed at about 22 degrees over 6 days. Opened one up at about 2 and a half weeks and already a rippa. Great complex full taste can't wait to it is older. Only small complaint is it is slightly thin in mouth feel. Will make again for sure. Next time will use safale yeast to compare the difference.

1st one Ive tried, on recommendation of HB shop owner. Used yeast supplied, 500gms Light Malt, 500gms Dxts, 10mls licorice xtract brewed at 25 deg. Not a heavy stout but very easy to tip a few back. Father in law was happy being a pom so that says a bit.

This was a kit I did for/with a mate who has just entered brewing. Anyway I was pretty disapointed in this kit, not because of the quality just because it seemed to be very mild in flavour, more like a dark ale. Brewed with a stout booster pack and the supplied yeast. If I did it again would steep some grains. Not bad just not what I expected.

I've made this twice both times with 1.5kg dark liquid malt, 300g corn syrup, 10ml liqorice extract. I used the supplied yeast & made batches of about 19-20lts & fermented it at about 22deg. I've used 15g of both Fuggles & Goldings hops It's very good, strong dark , malty, bitter stout, with a hint of sweetness. The head quality is also very good. It's not quite the perfect stout ..... the quest continues

This was my 3rd beer that I put on and it turned out SOOOOOOOO nice.. I used the yeast supplied, 500g Dark Malt, 250g light malt, 250g dex, 250g brown sugar. I split the batch into 2. I carbonated one with normal Coopers Carbonation Drops and the other I used Black Jelly Beans... It tastes really really nice. I wish I still had more of those left

Have done this a few times but added 1 can Dark Malt extrac, small can of choc malt extract, some lactose and some extra hops to balance all that malt. Excellent results, has turned a few of my mates onto dark beers.
