Good but lacking
by Brewpower
@ 28, May 2008 |

|
|
Made it basic with 400g of malt/dex/CS
mix and another 500g of dry malt. Added
around 80g of honey. Sugars disolved in
water just off the boil and two packets
of kit yeast used (had a spare). Taste
was distinctly Saaz and easy to put down
but no head and an unsettling urine
colour. Very easy drinking though it
doesn't reach its potential. Worth
mucking around with the recipe and
adding a lager yeast.

Saaz++
by Jaeger

I brewed this tin with the supplied
yeast (ale style) and a Brewcraft #62
Czech Pilsner Kit Converter "kilo".
I probably should have let it sit/settle
for longer, but the instructions were
quite anxious about bottling before
infection set in - which is fair enough.
As long as you decant the beer from the
lees, it's a fine brew!
Combining the Morgan's philosophy (hot
vs. boiling water, to preserve the hop
aromas) makes a lot of sense, and I'll
be using it with my future brews
(Morgan's or otherwise.)

Brewed this up only with 1kg dex and
250g CS.Came out very good, better than
all the other Pils that I have brewed
with extra malt added.I will definately
be make this one again however I will be
added plenty of LLME this time and
cutting back on the Dex

Disappointing Pils
by Wassa
@ 10, Jul 2006 |

|
|
Put down with 1kg of LDME and 20gm of
Saaz pellets dry hopped.
Fermenetd at 12-16 degrees over 2 weeks
using Saflager S23.
Had lovely dark golden colour but taste
was very disappointing. No crisp Saaz
taste on the palate and generally
disappointing brew when compared to an
Xtract Pilsner.

pretty darn good

Used as a base to which I added Saaz hop
pellets in a boil with Morgan's extra
pale liquid malt extract and a partial
mash of 'Vienna' malted grain with
Saaz finishing hops thrown in the
fermenter. Saflager yeast fermented it
at 14* C for 2 weeks in middle of
winter. I also used quality purified
water. The result is surprisingly good
for an extract based Pilsener - nice
golden colour, good mouthfeel, malty
with Saaz hop character coming through.
Very drinkable.

Cracking Pilsner
by barge
@ 17, Jan 2005 |

Hops Schedule:
15g hallertauer and saaz for 35min boil
and 15g hersbrucker for 15min boil. I
boil hops in about 2L of water to aid
alpha acid utilisation in low boil
volume.
Fermentables:
Golden Saaz Pilsner
Morgans lager Malt
Dextrose, 450g
Maltodextrin, 300g
Extra dextrose compensates for
carbonating in kegs.
O.G. 1.042
F.G. 1.012
Nice hop bitterness and aroma, good
mouthfeel and head.

Brewed using kit yeast, 500g malt/250g
dextrose/250g corn syrup and boiled 20
grams of saaz hops for 20 mins and
dryhopped with 20gram saaz hops.
Dry hopping was probably overdone, came
out very grassy, took 2 months for
grassy flavour to mellow however it is
starting to come out nice now. (3 months
later)
